I love bulk discounts. That’s why, last December, when Ancestry.com had a sale on its basic DNA heritage kits, I bought several. Two went to my parents, and the other two came to Husband and me. I know it’s a little goofy, but here in the End Times, anything goes, yes?
Only my mother’s and my results are in, and they are truly surprising. My mother had always assumed that since at least three of her grandparents were German, she would have a high percentage of German DNA in her blood. (Actually, I think the Ancestry people just call that group Europe West, which makes sense.) But, surprise! She is only 9% Western European, and 9% British (Great Britain). The rest of her is Irish (45%), and Scandinavian (29%). We had no idea.
You’d figure my own DNA would be quite similar. It is, but it’s concentrated differently.
I’m thrilled to tell you that I am all the same things my mother is–except in different amounts:
67% Western European
14% Great Britain
11% Scandinavian
7% Irish
Yes! 11% Scandinavian. Which means I really am Viking Barbie! How thrilling.
Tell me your heritage!

Here’s mine!
Italy/Greece – 37%
Ireland – 27%
Scandinavian – 18%
So I’m an Italian Viking Barbie!!!! We’re probably cousins. It would make SO much sense!
IKR?! Let’s just say we’re cousins, anyway. 💜
🙂 I always wanted to try the Ancestry DNA; go Viking Barbie!
It was a good experience, Skye, and I recommend it. They run specials over the year. But if you send it in right after Christmas, be prepared to wait. Ours took 10 weeks.
Thanks for letting me know.
